EKSU VC Promises Fast Postgraduate Programme.
Members of Staff of the Ekiti State University, EKSU have been told to key into the vision of the new Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Oye Bandele in moving the University on enviable status among Nigerian Universities.
This was the central theme of the speeches delivered by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oye Bandele during a tour of Faculties in the University.
He specifically told teaching and non-teaching staff that he would be requiring them to cooperate in raising the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and improving the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) level of the Institution to make the administration in the University paperless eventually. Professor Bandele emphasized that he was ready to be fair, firm, fearless and friendly in his dealings with members of staff in addition to faithfulness to God.
At the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Prof. Bandele stressed that his administration would take the issue of commercial farming as well as research and training serious. “I am not happy that the University is not as affluent as it should be with a large expense of land we have for agricultural development and commercial farming” Prof. Bandele said.
He however expressed satisfaction that two professors in the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences prepared and submitted papers in line with the vision to make agriculture a revenue generation area and promised to support the faculty in all spheres to make it relevant to the University and the society. The Dean, Prof. FAS Dairo had earlier highlighted issues bothering on strength and weakness of the faculty.
At the Faculty of Engineering, the Dean, Prof. E. A. Okunade raised issues concerning challenges and aspirations of the Faculty with a plea that the Vice-Chancellor should look into areas of staffing, equipment and laboratories as well as lecture rooms stressing that faculty needed to be upgraded along these areas.
While promising to look at the demands of the Faculty, Prof. Bandele expressed shock that some postgraduate students stay unnecessarily to obtain degrees in the University and stressed that he would not tolerate situations where students are unnecessarily delayed in postgraduate programmes. He promised sanctions for lecturers who delay students unnecessarily.
According to him, postgraduate programmes in EKSU should go according to the planned academic calendar. There should be no delay on the part of lecturers at all.
Professor Bandele had visited among others, Faculties of Education, Engineering, Law, Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Arts, University Main Library, the College of Postgraduate Studies and the College of Medicine.
