Zamfara Offers Free Feeding To 137,000 Sate School Students
The Zamfara Secondary Schools Feeding Board, says it is offering free feeding to 137,000 students in 191 secondary schools across the state.
According to the chairman of the board, Malam Atiku Maradun, the programme was introduced to boost enrolment and retention of students.
He said that the board currently offers three square meals daily to the affected students in boarding schools and one meal to those in day schools.
“We also give special foods like, fruits, groundnut, egg, chicken to female boarding secondary schools as well as cosmetics and toiletries to all students.”
He said that the board had procured six vehicles for monitoring and supervision of the feeding centres.
According to him, 100 new kitchens in the affected schools were either renovated or built under the programme, in addition to the provision of grinding machines.
The chairman commended the state government’s commitment towards the programme, and thanked the secondary school principals for their support and cooperation.
Maradun urged feeding officers in the schools to work hard and be transparent in the discharge of their duties. (NAN)
