• The Chairman of the Exam Ethics Marshals International, Mr Ike Onyechere, has called on the Federal Government to decentralise admission process by allowing tertiary institutions to select their candidates without input from any coordinating body.

The NGO chairman, who made this known in Abuja on Monday, said that tertiary institutions should be given complete autonomy to select applicants for specific programmes based on their criteria.

“I think the admission of students should be deregulated.

“Tertiary institutions should be allowed to admit their students in line with the law setting them up.

“I find it a little bit surprising that a university is free to admit candidates for master’s and doctorate degrees but cannot admit for undergraduate degrees; it doesn’t make sense to me,” he said.

Onyechere said tertiary institutions should be given complete autonomy to operate, as obtained most developing and developed countries. (NAN)
