NUC Partners NASRDA To Update Engineering Curriculum
The National Universities Commission (NUC) will partner with the National Air Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) to improve research especially in the area of Air Space Technology, aimed at expanding the trend of Engineering programmes taught in the Nigerian University System (NUS).
The Executive Secretary of NUC, Professor Julius A. Okojie, disclosed this while receiving the Management of NASRDA, led by its Director-General, Professor Muhammad Seidu, who paid him a courtesy call on Thursday, 11 September, 2014, in his office. He noted that the NUC and the Agency shared a common mandate of promoting research that would be geared towards improving the economy of the country, adding that there were no other places where such research could be better handled than the ivory towers.
Prof. Okojie disclosed that except for the Geographical Information System (GIS), the Commission was yet to develop a comprehensive curriculum on Space Research and Technology, calling on the Agency to support the NUC to develop the programme and ensure that it had a good beginning by making it an all-inclusive, in line with the global best practices.
He said that the Nigerian Research and Education Network (NgREN) Project had improved on teaching and learning as well as sharing of new ideas, information and resources among the academic institutions in the NUS.
The NUC Scribe explained further that with 129 Universities under the regulatory watch of the Commission, and a student population of 1.4 million, the NUC would continue to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure that quality was not compromised.
He added that the collaboration between the NUC and NASRDA would afford the two agencies ample opportunities.
