The chairman of the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mallam Abdulkarim Mohammed, has stated that the state government spent N792 million to construct 36 modern primary schools across the state from January 2011 to date.
Mohammed told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia that the state government also earmarked N1.1billion for the provision of furniture in schools across the state.
The chairman said Governor Tanko Al-Makura’s APC-led administration is extremely committed to improving the education sector because it is the bedrock of the development of any society.
He said, “Al-Makura has vowed to take education to the doorsteps of all and sundry in the state.”
The chairman also disclosed that the Federal Government/Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) had funded the fencing of some schools.
He said that the federal authorities also provided boreholes, constructed three blocks of classrooms in some parts of the state and did the landscaping of some schools that were prone to erosion.
Mohammed explained that the construction of three special schools, one in each senatorial zone, had reached advanced stage.
“The schools, which are being located in Lafia, Gudi and Keffi, would after completion, accommodate physically challenged persons in the state and the country in general to meet their educational needs.
“That of Lafia is 95 per cent under completion and would soon be commissioned, considering the importance which the governor attached to education of persons with disability,” he said. (NAN)
