• The Kano State Government has introduced summer camps for primary school girls as part of efforts to promote the girl-child education in the state.

This is contained in a statement signed by Alhaji Usman Bello, the Director Press, Office of the Deputy Governor, and made available to newsmen on Friday In Kano.

According to the statement, the deputy governor had already launched the programme at Kanti Primary School, Bichi.

“The programme entails giving special training to girls during holidays in order to enhance their learning capacity,” it said.

The statement, which quoted the deputy governor as expressing concern over the backwardness of the state in female education, expressed the state government’s determination to reverse the ugly trend.

“A situation where girls’ education is terminated at primary or secondary school level needs to be changed in view of the need for female medical doctors, teachers and other professionals,” the statement said.

The statement charged parents and other stakeholders to rise up to the challenge and support girl-child education in the state.

It said that the state government would implement the summer camp programme in collaboration with a UK agency, Education Support Programme in Nigeria (ESPIN). (NAN)
