• Government at all levels in Nigeria have been advised to give more attention to the development of Early Childhood education, in order to enhance future prospect of children in the country.

    The advice was given by an education expert, Dr. Mrs Adefunke Ekine, in a lead paper presented at the 2015 National Conference of the Early Childhood Association of Nigeria (ECAN), held on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 in Adeyemi College of Education (ACE) Ondo.

    Underscoring the Importance of early childhood education in the society, Mrs. Ekine described it as a very important aspect of education, that is required for achieving long term success for
    individuals, families, communities and nations in the process of attaining peace and sustainable world.

    While delivering the paper entitled: “MEETING THE NEEDS OF THE WHOLE CHILD THROUGH EFFECTIVE EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION” Mrs. Ekine, Deputy Director, Directorate of Academic Planning, Quality Assurance and Research, Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu-ode, examined the concept of the whole child, needs of the child and indicators of a good childhood.

    Stressing the need for parents and community to exhibit more interest in social, emotional, health and physical development of the child, the University don said through this, Nigeria children would be able to exhibit the talent given to them by God effectively.

    While commending the Federal Government for the incorporation of one year free compulsory pre-school education into the National Policy on Education and making it integral part of public primary schools curriculum in the country, the education expert, however, appealed to the government to give more attention to other areas of need such as replacement of dilapidated classrooms, recruitment of qualified teachers, provision of necessary teaching aids, safety, security as well as increase funding to education.
