Edo Governor Recalls Sacked Teachers, Cancels Competence Test
The rave and agitations about the competence test for teachers in Edo state has finally yielded fruits as the state governor, Adams Oshiomhole have directed that the test should be cancelled.
Announcing this, the Governor said that the 936 teachers whose names had been deleted from the payroll over certificate discrepancies and age falsification has been recalled.
“The state government’s commitment to carry out competency test was informed by these broad facts having discovered that some of our teachers were not qualified or up to date with recent teaching methods.
“However, having listened to all suggestions and consultations with various groups, Government has agreed to set aside the Competency or Assessment test in order to re assure Edo workers that government hasno intention to sack anyone”, he said.
He promised to introduce the training and re-training of teachers and other civil servants in the state.
Reacting, the teachers’ unions and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) greeted the new development with joy and thank the governor for his understanding.
