The
Student’s unionism which is aimed at protecting the right and interest of Nigerian students, today cannot protect anyone but rather has become an instrument for achieving political interest in a dubious way.
Nigerian students could not address the issue because they are being influenced by political leaders who are setting bad examples for them and now they are seen as birds of the same feather because they operate same leadership style.
The same act is being witnessed on our campus unionism ranging from Students Union Government to the last subsidiary association under SUG. Students are only striving to achieve their own selfish interest.
The effects of such selfish interest system in Nigeria is poverty which is as a result of high degree of accumulation of public wealth into our leaders personal accounts; people are living in hunger and starvation due to bad administration and poor quality of leadership.
It is high time Nigerian students put hands together and bore in mind that a university is a place where leaders are made. We should remember that most great men we hear about today in the world gained their respect and recognition as a result of unionism, the likes of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Ghaddafi of Libya, Castro of Cuba, Pa Michael Imodu, Kwame Nkrumah, Professor Attahiru Muhammad Jega and a host of others.
Nigerian students should emulate the leadership styles of these great men mentioned above for the betterment of our great nation.
