ASUP Members Threaten To Go On Strike.
Nigerian polytechnic lecturers, under the aegis of the Association of Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), have threatened to embark on strike if the Federal Government does not urgently address the various industrial issues raised by the union.
According to the President of ASUP, Comrade Usman Yusuf Dutse, who spoke at the 2016 Workers’ Day celebration in Abuja, all efforts made by the union to meet government officials to explain the urgency of their demands have failed.

He said the situation leaves the union with no choice but to embark on an industrial action.
Dutse said the union was disturbed that since the suspension of the protracted ASUP strike in 2014, none of the core issues of demand has been addressed by the Federal Government.
According to him, the lecturers have been reluctant to take appropriate actions to address the situation because it believes in dialogue and have always practiced responsible unionism.
The union leader however said that recent events leaves the body no choice than to force issues with industrial action.
