A Liberian, Dr. Evelyn Kandakai, has been elected the 18th Chairman of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) at the 63rd Annual Meeting of the Council in Lagos, Nigeria.
By this, Dr. Kandakai became the first female to be elected to the top position in the 63 year history of WAEC.

She will be replacing Emeritus Professor P. A. I. Obanya of Nigeria as the WAEC chairman who was elected in March 2012
Speaking at the annual meeting, the present Liberian Education Minister, Mrs. Etmonia David Tarpeh, appreciated the Nigerian government for hosting the meeting on behalf of her country, who initially was to host the event but was forced to give up preparations as a result of the Ebola crisis rocking the country.
