2016 Maltina Teacher of the Year Winner Emerges

Imoh Essien Crowned Maltina Teacher of the Year 2016 Winner.

Mr. Imoh Essien of the Special Education Center for Exceptional Children, Uyo in Akwa Ibom State, has emerged the winner of the 2016 Maltina Teacher of the Year Award.

He takes over from Mrs. Rose Obi of Federal Government College (FGC), Onitsha, who was the champion of the competition in 2015.

Essien, who teaches Computer Studies, Basic Science and Physical Education, was rewarded with a prize money of N1.5 million and will equally get N1 million every year for the next five years.

Also the winner will enjoy an all-expense paid overseas training programme while his school will get a block of six classrooms for producing him.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Essien said he drew his inspiration for teaching from his fun loving personality through which he is able to help children with special needs, and that the achievement will spur him to serve better.

Maltina Teacher of the Year award is organised and sponsored annually by Nigerian Breweries on the platform of its charity arm– Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund as a way of contributing to the development of education, and the economy by extension.
