The suspect was reported missing by her mother, Mrs Beatrice Bosa, after she was apparently kidnapped on her way to Abraka, Delta State from Lagos last December with the abductors demanding a ransom of N500,000.00 from her.
Sequel to the report, operatives of Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad in Asaba, swung into action and arrested one America Sunday Ogagawotu at Oyiobo, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, after withdrawing the ransom money which was paid into his Ecobank account in Port-Harcourt.
The arrested suspect implicated Chinwe’s boyfriend, who in turn confessed to the crime, saying that he came from overseas and that he wanted to use the money to settle down.
He disclosed that the victim got N100,000.00 as her own share from the ransom of N500,000.00 paid by her parents.
When contacted, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Alkali Baba Usman, revealed that the victim, on leaving Lagos went to her boyfriend, one George Itietie at Port-Harcourt where herself, the said Itietie and America Sunday Ogagawatu planned to inform her parents that she was kidnapped so as to extort money from her parents.
He said that all the arrested accomplice have confessed to the crime and are helping the police with further investigation.
