An inspection team from the National Universities Commission on Monday visited the Covenant University campus in Ota, for the accreditation of various programmes in the institution.
The team, which was made up of 22 members, was received in the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room.
While welcoming the team, the Registrar, Dr. Olumuyiwa Oludayo said, “We are happy that you are here, because visits like this help us to assess our progress towards attaining our goals.
“We are delighted that we are part of the universities making Nigeria proud and we trust that you will not be disappointed in your findings as you engage in your assignment”, he added.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Ayo stated that the University had set out to be a world-class University on best practices from inception and was set to surpass current standards.
He noted that the only way to move forward in any worthy venture is to be open to assessment and evaluation. The Vice-Chancellor expressed optimism that this year’s exercise would move the University forward in its quest to become one of the top ten universities in the world by 2022.
Speaking earlier, one of the team leaders, Professor Emma Okoye, said that Covenant University was already on its way to the top, and would even go higher as it makes itself open to assessments and improvements.
He described the exercise as a quality enhancement programme.
The programmes up for accreditation are Accounting, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Technology, Economics, Development Studies, Mass Communication, Sociology, Political Science, International Relations, Biology, Biochemistry and Microbiology.
