The Management of Covenant University, Ota has announced the promotion of 40 of its Faculty to the professorial cadre, even as the Chancellor, Dr. David Oyedepo, enjoined them not to be entangled by their titles.
While making the announcement on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Ayo, explained that the elevation of 12 faculty to Full Professorship level and 28 to Associate Professorship level was the outcome of the promotion exercise carried out by the Appointment and Promotion Committee (A&PC) for the just concluded 2014/2015 Academic Session and validated by External Assessors.
The Vice-Chancellor also announced the appointment of four newly engaged professors and enjoined everyone to provide new level of academic leadership in the University.
The newly promoted full professors include Professor Francis Iyoha of the Department of Accounting and the current Deputy Dean of the School of Business; Professor Daniel Gberevbie of Political Science and International Relations, who is also the Deputy Dean, School of Social Science and Professor Phillip Alege, the current HOD of Economics and Development Studies.
The Department of Biological Sciences has the largest number of professors, which include: the immediate past HOD, Professor Emeka Iweala; the current Sub-Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Solomon Oranusi and the only female among the professors, Professor Adesola Ajayi.
Others are Professor Samuel Oloyede, who is also the Deputy Dean, School of Environmental Sciences; HOD, Building Technology, Professor Olasupo Fagbenle; HOD Chemistry, Professor Kolawole Ajanaku; Director, Centre for Lifelong Learning, Professor Nicholas Omoregbe; immediate past HOD, Architecture, Professor Albert Adeboye and immediate past HOD, Languages and General Studies, Professor Innocent Chiluwa.
The newly promoted Associate Professors are Dr. Uwalomwa Uwuigbe, the HOD, Accounting and Dr. Olubukola Uwuigbe of the same department. From the Department of Business Management are Dr. Rowland Worlu, the HOD and Dr. Edwin Agwu; while the Department of Mass Communication has Dr. Olusola Oyero.
The Department of Sociology produced three Associate Professors and they include Dr. Charles Ironuagbe, Dr. David Imhonopi and Dr. Mathew Egbarevba. The Department of Computer and Information Sciences has its HOD, Dr. Ayodele Adebiyi and Dr. Victor Osamor, while the Department of Physics also produced its HOD, Dr. Victor Omotosho and Dr. Mojisola Usikalu.
From the Department of Estate Management are Dr. Mayowa Ajibola and Dr. Caleb Ayedun. HOD, Architecture, Dr. Eziyi Ibem; Director, Academic Planning, Dr. Akan Williams, Chemistry Department; HOD, Psychology, Dr. Olujide Adekeye and Dr. Gbadebo Adejumo of the same department also made the list.
Others are HOD, Electrical and Information Engineering, Dr. Francis Idachaba; Dr. Anthony Adoghe of the same department; HOD, Petroleum Engineering, Dr. David Orodu; Dr. Paul Anawe, Petroleum Engineering; as well as Dr. David Omole and Dr. David Olukanni, both from Civil Engineering.
The newly engaged professors are Professor Israel Dunmade from Mount Royal University, Canada; Professor Kenneth Adekalu form Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife; Professor Samuel Akinmusuru from Lawrence Technological University, Southfield, USA and Dr. Samuel Onawumi from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.
