The Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Ijanikin, Lagos, has commenced online registration for Open and Distance Learning (ODL) for the award of National Certificate in Education (NCE).
The Director of Information and Computer Technology of the college, Dr Victor Akinola, who made this disclosure, said that the programme would commence in May.
Akinola said by commencing NCE ODL courses online, the institution had become the “primus inter pares” (first among equals) in offering course through that mode at that level in the country.
He said the ODL would be structured as a dual mode teacher production, advancement and orientation programme in which constraints on study would be minimised.
Akinola said the two major programmes would be introduced; the NCE courses structured into four-year programme with School certificate as entry requirement and reduced number of years for higher qualification.
He said the second course includes Continuing Teacher Professional Development (CTDP) in curriculum resources, management, methodology, evaluation, etc.
“The course shall range from one month to one year and it targets practicing teachers, parents, educators, educational administrators and any other interested scholars,” he said.
According to him, information and instruction would be dispensed through a remote dissemination point through text, airwaves and electronic means.
Akinola said that in spite of the challenges of funding, power outage, social acceptance and ODL proliferation which would be addressed, the programme was a unique and fortunate adventure in providing Education for All (EFA).
“It will surely reach the nooks and corners of the entire community and beyond providing educational, social and job empowerment for individuals as well as promoting community and national development,” he said. (NAN)
