A total of 1,648 students were admitted into Akwa
A breakdown of this figure according to faculties showed that 157 got into the Faculty of Agriculture, 300 for Faculty of Arts, 145 for Faculty of Education, 336 for Faculty of Engineering, 349 for Faculty of Natural & Applied Sciences while a further 361 were admitted into the Faculty of Social & Management Sciences.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eno James Ibanga congratulated the students on their admission into the University and noted that the number of students admitted into the 2014/2015 session is about 32% increase from the 1,253 students who matriculated during the 4th matriculation ceremony.
He reiterated that Akwa Ibom State University is aimed at providing students with the best education possible and turning out the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs who will sustain the Nigerian economy.
The Vice-Chancellor enjoined the matriculating students to keep their matriculation oath by shunning all forms of criminality including cultism and examination malpractices as the university has zero tolerance for any form of misconduct adding that they should not allow peer pressure to influence or distract their attention from their academic work.
The event which featured the formal admission of the students into the university by the Vice-Chancellor and the administration of Matriculation Oath by the Registrar, Mr. Samuel Udoekong was attended by Principal Officers of the University; Deans of Faculties, Senate.
Also the staff, students and general public was present to witness the event.
