• A 25-year-old Nigerian, Hope Olusegun Aroke, schooling at Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan University, Malaysia, has been convicted and jailed 24 years by Justice Lateefa Okunnu of the Lagos State High Court, for a N25 million internet fraud.

    Aroke was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on December, 2012 at his 1004 Housing Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos residence following a tip-off.

    A search conducted by EFCC operatives on his apartment led to the recovery of several items such as laptops, iPad phones, travelling documents, cheque books, flash drives, internet modem, and three exotic cars – a Mercedes Benz Jeep, One 4Matic Mercedes Benz Car and a Range Rover Sport SUV.

    The suspect was subsequently docked before a Federal High Court, Lagos on Monday January 21, 2013 on two separate charges of Money laundering and False Declaration of Assets.

    Spokesman to the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren said the court found him guilty of the two charges and was sentenced to twelve years imprisonment on each of the two counts.The sentence are to run concurrently.
