• The Obafemi Awolowo University chapter of the Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) staged a protest on Monday over the non-payment of their hazard allowance approved by the federal government since 2013.

The angry workers blocked all entrance to the university, preventing vehicular movement in and out of the institution and shut down all facilities on campus.

Addressing newsmen during the protest, the OAU NASU chairman, Comrade Wole Odewunmi, explained that they are owed their hazard allowance for the past 64 months.

He said that several negotiations and meetings with the school management ended in deadlock.

The union leader added that if the management refuses to respond to their demand, they will resort to industrial action.

However, the management of OAU, who spoke through the public relations officer of the institution, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, explained that the university would pay the workers as soon as it gets the allowance from the federal government.
