• The Nasarawa State government has denied reports that it is owing the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to the tune of N4 billion as outstanding payments for final year examination of students in the state.

This was contained in a statement signed by the media aide to Governor Ahmed Tukur, which stated that since assumption of office in 2011, the governor had only paid National Examinations Council’s (NECO) examinations fees for students in public schools and not WAEC fees.

He said, “Nasarawa State Government wishes to state that it’s not indebted to WAEC as portrayed by the publication. We wish to make it categorically clear that the state has not made any commitment with regard to payment of WAEC fees for student of public schools”.

The government called on the public to disregard the report, and urged media practitioners to always cross check their facts from relevant government agencies for clarification before going to the press.
