• Federal University Otuoke Holds 6th Matriculation Ceremony.

No fewer than 2,430 students were admitted into the Federal University, Otuoke (FUO) in Bayelsa State, during the 2016/2017 academic session matriculation ceremony held on Saturday.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Seth Jaja, said that admissions were based on merits measured in line with standards set by the Federal Ministry of Education (FME), National Universities Commission (NUC), Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the institution’s Senate.

He said: “When I assumed office in February 17, 2016, the university only ran 12 academic programmes, which limited the number of prospective students offered admission into the institution.

“This challenge was overcome when the National Universities Commission, after due resource verification exercise, approved 16 new additional programmes which increased the university’s carrying-capacity from 1,500 to 2000.

Jaja warned the fresh students to stay away from illegal associations and relationships in and around the university’s environment.

The VC also advised the students not to allow themselves to be intimidated by any lecturer, urging them to raise the alarm when they noticed abnormality.
