• Students of the Department of Biological Sciences, Covenant University UCU), Ota, have been urged to avail themselves of the opportunities outside school, because there are many chances to make discoveries, especially in the world of science.

This advice was given by Mrs. Oluwakemi Shode, the Quality Control Manager of a leading pharmaceutical Company in Nigeria, Neimeth International Pharm. PLC, in her lecture titled “The Bioscientist: A team player in the Pharmaceutical Industry- Roles, Usefulness and Relevance”.

The lecture was delivered at the Town and Gown interaction organized by the department on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at the College of Science and Technology (CST) Conference Room.

According to her, “The ground is yet to be broken as far as the relevance of the Bioscientist is concerned. Discoveries of species and better understanding of the living system to solve problems in science medicine and health are yet to be made.” Mrs. Shode also encouraged the students to be persistent in their research work and be ready to share their discoveries because it will go a long way in validating them.

She referred to Bioscience as a very dynamic discipline that can take a Bioscientist to any length. “The Bioscientist is an indispensable partner in a wide range of industries- water treatment and engineering industry, the food and beverage industry, the breweries and so many others.” she said.

In her lecture, Mrs. Shode stated that a Bioscientist serves as an engine for the pharmaceutical body; just as the pharmaceutical body itself helps to multiply and reproduce whatever is discovered.
